Your Visit
What to expect at your appointment
We understand that visiting for the first time can feel uncertain. Here is what your appointment will look like so you can feel prepared and comfortable.
Before your appointment
There is very little you need to do to prepare. Here are a few things that may help:
- No insurance or paperwork is required.
- If you are coming for an ultrasound, drink 16 to 32 ounces of water about one hour beforehand. A full bladder helps produce clearer images.
- You are welcome to bring a support person, or come on your own.
- Write down any questions you have. There is no question too small.
During your visit
Every appointment is one-on-one in a confidential setting. Here is how a typical visit goes:
- You check in privately at the front desk.
- A nurse or patient advocate brings you to a comfortable, confidential space.
- They listen to your situation and answer any questions you have. There is no script and no agenda.
- If a pregnancy test is needed, it takes just a few minutes. Results are shared with you right away.
- If an ultrasound is appropriate, a trained sonographer performs the scan in a confidential setting. The scan is comfortable and typically takes 15 to 20 minutes.
- The nurse will explain the preliminary findings of the ultrasound and the advocate will walk you through your options.
- If you need more time to think, that is completely okay. There is no pressure to make any decisions during your visit.
After your visit
If you want additional information, a follow-up ultrasound, or just someone to talk through your thoughts with, we are here. We can also connect you with community resources for housing, food assistance, healthcare enrollment, and parenting support.
What to bring
- Nothing is required. No insurance card or paperwork. If you have an ID we can keep a copy on file.
- If you have medical records from another provider, they can be helpful but are not necessary.
- Bring any questions or concerns. Everything discussed is confidential.
