Support after an abortion
If you have had an abortion and are experiencing physical symptoms, emotional distress, or simply want someone safe to talk to, you are not alone and you are welcome here. We provide a confidential, judgment-free space where you can process your experience at your own pace. A trained patient advocate will listen without pushing any particular perspective and can connect you with additional support, including licensed counselors, peer support programs (one-on-one or group conversations with others who have been through a similar experience), and follow-up medical care if needed.
Emotional responses are normal
People experience a wide range of emotions after an abortion, including relief, sadness, guilt, anger, numbness, or a combination. There is no single "right" way to feel, and your emotions may change over time. If you find that difficult feelings are affecting your daily life, relationships, sleep, or ability to concentrate, talking to someone who understands can help.
Physical recovery
After a medication or surgical abortion, it is normal to experience bleeding and cramping for several days to a few weeks. Warning signs that require medical attention include heavy bleeding that soaks through more than two pads per hour for two or more hours, fever above 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit, severe abdominal pain that is not relieved by over-the-counter medication, and foul-smelling discharge. If you experience any of these symptoms, seek medical care immediately or call 911.
Support options available

Support programs available
Our after-abortion support includes confidential one-on-one conversations with trained patient advocates, many of whom have personal experience with abortion. We also offer referrals to a structured 10-week peer support program where you can connect with others who have had similar experiences in a safe, confidential group setting. Licensed professional counseling referrals are also available. Every conversation is protected under HIPAA, and no information is shared with anyone without your written permission.
